How to Apply for a Toronto Building Permit Online
Toronto accepts building permit applications electronically. Here is the process in plain language.
STEP 1 — CHOOSE THE RIGHT APPLICATION GUIDE
Toronto publishes a guide for each common project type. It lists the drawings and documents you will need.
STEP 2 — PREPARE DRAWINGS AND DOCUMENTS
Typical requirements include a site plan, floor plans, sections or elevations and construction details. Larger or structural projects may require drawings from a qualified designer or engineer.
STEP 3 — SUBMIT ELECTRONICALLY
Applications and drawings are submitted through Toronto Building's online services and the required fees are paid.

RELATED PERMITS
Depending on the project, separate plumbing, drain or HVAC/mechanical permits may also be required. Electrical work is handled separately through the Electrical Safety Authority.
