Electrical Inspections During Renovations
How ESA electrical notification, inspection and the Certificate of Acceptance fit into a renovation.
1. NOTIFICATION — the Licensed Electrical Contractor files a Notification of Work with ESA, generally before work begins.
2. INSPECTION — ESA may inspect the work, often before walls are closed ("rough-in") and when it is complete.
3. LICENSED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR — the LEC is responsible for making sure the work meets the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and for correcting any defects.
4. CERTIFICATE OF ACCEPTANCE — when ESA is satisfied, a Certificate of Acceptance is issued for the work.
5. KEEP DOCUMENTATION — keep the certificate with your house records. Buyers, insurers and future contractors may ask for it.
